SOUL IN MOTION PLAYERS classic Black History Month production, We Are Africa, has been presented to ecstatic audiences since 1991. In its 12 year history, We Are Africa has addressed contemporary and historical issues by fusing intense sociopolitical topics with lively audience participation, African drumming, dance and oral tradition. Inspired by the enlightening research of world-renown Egyptologist, Tony Browder, and his revolutionary book “From the Browder Files,” this thought-provoking theatrical production inspires audiences of all ages to actively pursue historical facts significant to their individual cultures and heritage.

Taking place one night in 1989 outside of a crowded club, Tate Corvoisier, a homeless man, expresses his frustration with society. While begging for money, he approaches two college students that happen to pass by. Instead of giving him money, they begin discussing Egyptology and its significance to African-Americans. During the course of the evening Tate experiences life as a revolutionary during the civil rights era. He also finds himself challenging tribal spirits. By the time this night is over Tate is celebrating life and dancing in the streets. He's truly one man whose life will never be the same after learning of his ancestral roots to ancient Egypt and how the knowledge of his African ancestors have affected this country, especially, Washington, DC.
